Food, Fun, and Public Square Outreach
Since I am of Italian-American descent, I regard food as very important. My fellow life defenders agree this is an important perk after Public Square Outreach. Except for Life Chain, each of PLW’s outreach events ends with a meal together and a time for laughter and fellowship.
Most of us wear our red Life Saver T-shirts. These attract attention and conversation in restaurants. On several occasions,
I have been asked, “Could I have one?” The answer is “Yes”.
For overpass outreach, when the signs are returned to “Carolyn” the billboard truck, we're off to Jason's Deli.
It’s a Baby Waco happens in the public right of way of Planned Parenthood. 8-10 AM. At 8:30. I count the foot soldiers, multiply by 3, and call in an order. Annette Jones brings desserts and serves the outstanding brunch.
Our pharmacy outreach has brought us to several CVS and Walgreens stores. The restaurants have been McAlister's Deli, Panera Bread, and Golden Corral. The latter was for November weekly protests of CVS at our Target department store. All Target pharmacies are CVS. Our foot soldiers enjoyed deciding just what they wanted for lunch.
And then we have two to three out-of-town excursions, usually to protest a Planned Parenthood fundraiser in Dallas, Austin, or Fort Worth. Denny's has worked well on the way back.
